Update: Ha! Okay, so he’s gone then… even more reason to get the transfers moving! Also just read that Williams is defo on his way, probably due to the Stones transfer finally being agreed.

I mean, this could work for us too. I’m thinking that we might register Messi and Ronaldo in our Premier League squad in a couple of weeks time and see if anyone notices. Although we’d have to leave out McGeady so…
Yes, in another twist in the ‘life and times of Everton Football Club’ it appears that our superstar defender John Stones has been registered as a Man City player. They had to put their UEFA Champions League squad together and post it last night, and they included a new player in their side. Number 24: John Stones.
Now this can be taken two ways. First of all we can be furious that City have been so arrogant to do this. Or we can be grown up about it and be thankful that the whole farcical situation is coming to an end. At least it might see some frantic transfer activities happening in the next few days, although it would be Everton all over to register replacements on Friday night, too late to play on Saturday.
In terms of replacements, assuming this embarrasses everyone into actually pushing the deal through, who should we go for?
For me the Ashley Williams deal would be great to give us some more leadership at the back. Jose Fonte would also be a great acquisition, although both players are 32 and would really only be a stop-gap for a couple of years. I’d prefer to see someone like Van Dijk being stolen from Southampton for £20m-£25m. Young, settled in the Premier League and only going to get better. Over to you Ronald. And stop being so nice over transfers. Whack a wad of cash on the table and just bully teams into giving us their best players. Everyone else seems to be doing it to us.
Just had a thought actually – can we not just whack the price up on Stones now that City have wasted a space in their UEFA squad on him? They’ve left out Mangala completely after all.
