Oh just celebrate, you utter blert. Seriously, he was on loan at West Brom for a year, did well there, but I doubt their fans would be too upset if Lukaku had celebrated his first goal for Everton since his £28m move. I mean, he ignored them to sign for us on loan the season after he played for the Baggies so does he think their fans really love him that much?
Anyway, Everton warmed up for their first Europa League game of the campaign against Wolfsburg on Thursday with a convincing 2-0 victory away to West Brom.
Any nerves were settled only a couple of minutes into the game when a poor clearance was seized on by Lukaku who curled a beauty past Forster into the left-hand corner. Lukaku then decided that he was ever so humble and didn’t celebrate. Which is lovely, obviously.
Not a great deal then happened for the rest of the first half and it was only in the second half when Miralles put the game beyond the Baggies by doing one of his selfish runs that end with a scuffed effort towards the near post that for some reason mesmerize opposition goalies. Forster kind’ve dived over the effort and the points were in the bag.
You get the impression that the boys are going to have to do a lot better than this against Wolfsburg on Thursday. The passing is still a bit lapse at times and there just isn’t the same level of intensity and fitness that we saw last season under Martinez.
Still, a win’s a win. Hurray! And only one point behind runaway title favourites Libbububblefubbleclb.
